BENGALURU: A day after the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) sealed a Zepto warehouse in Bengaluru Rural over alleged food safety violations, the department turned its attention to another major food supply chain player, inspecting a Hyperpure by Zomato unit at Sakalawara on Tuesday.The FDA found lapses involving labelling, licensing and storage of several food products at the Hyperpure warehouse, which officials said supplies food and other products to several hotels. The premises, however, was found to be clean and tidy during the inspection, according to the department.During the inspection, officials found 146kg of chicken for which the manufacturer’s FSSAI licence number was not available, while 40kg of garlic was sourced from a manufacturer whose FSSAI licence was not in force.The team also found 300kg of rice, 20kg of dry fruits and 15kg of masala with alleged mislabelling in the packed products. Besides, 10kg of imported radish pickle was not stored in a refrigerated area as required by the labelling condition.The department collected 40 samples — five legal samples and 35 survey samples — for further examination. The FDA has issued a notice to the Zomato Hyperpure unit and said further legal action would be taken as per the prescribed provisions.The inspection comes amid an intensified food safety crackdown in Bengaluru, with the FDA expanding its scrutiny beyond eateries and hotel kitchens to warehouses and food distribution centres.
