Jaipur: Shifting its parent engagement strategy, the school education department has directed teachers to discuss students’ competency levels rather than grades at a mega parent-teacher meeting (PTM) on March 25.
Teachers have been instructed to engage in a detailed discussion with parents regarding the students’ learning progress by sharing with them the students’ results in AI-based competency-based assessment, holistic report cards, annual examination results, and oral reading fluency results.
“The focus of the discussion should be on the student’s actual learning level rather than merely on their grade. For oral reading fluency, teachers have been asked to inform parents about the student’s performance relative to the cohort they are in and specifically address the extent of improvement demonstrated in reading skills from the baseline assessment to the end-line assessment,” said a senior official.
At the mega PTM, students will be encouraged to submit 50% of their old free textbooks, and any unused books, which can be kept in the school library.
