Aurangabad: Heavy rain over the past two days flooded several low-lying areas of Aurangabad district after a sharp rise in the Adari river on Monday, prompting the administration to issue an alert for residents living along its banks.Adari river, which flows close to the district headquarters, witnessed a sudden surge in water level on Monday morning, sending floodwater into localities such as Yamunanagar, Shahpur, Nawadih and Jarmakhap. Water also flowed over a bridge connecting Jarmakhap, disrupting traffic movement in the area.The district administration advised residents living near the river to avoid its banks and said the situation was being closely monitored. Disaster management teams were deployed to inspect vulnerable locations and take preventive measures. Officials are also working to regulate the flow with the help of an embankment near the district headquarters.District disaster management officer Antra Kumari said the sudden rise in the Adari’s water level was mainly caused by intense rainfall in its catchment area over the last 48 hours. She said there was no immediate need to shift residents, but senior officials were reviewing the situation regularly.Water levels in the Batane and Punpun rivers have also increased, though both remain below the danger mark. The Son river is witnessing higher pressure following heavy rainfall in its catchment area, leading to the controlled release of water from the Indrapuri Son Barrage. Officials said the release has not posed any threat to human settlements so far.
