Palanpur: The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Mehsana police arrested five persons and seized 183.85gm of mephedrone (MD) worth Rs 5.51 lakh from a car on the service road between Nugar Circle and Shivalaya Circle on Monday.The total value of the seized material, including cash, mobile phones and a car, was estimated at Rs 10.03 lakh.Acting on a tip-off that a white Maruti Swift car would delivering drugs brought from Rajasthan, an LCB team kept watch on the Mehsana bypass road and intercepted the car. Police found two plastic bags containing a white crystalline and lumpy substance. A field test conducted by an FSL officer confirmed it to be mephedrone.The arrested accused were identified as Hareshbhai Prajapati, Bharatbhai Parangi, Lakhabhai Rajput, Karanbhai Solanki and Kuldeepbhai Rajput. Police said one of the accused had brought the drug from Rajasthan, while others had allegedly travelled from Surat to collect the consignment.Police have named Bhajanbhai, a resident of Sanchore in Rajasthan, as a wanted accused for allegedly supplying the seized drug. A case has been registered at Mehsana Taluka police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
