Dharmapuri: Five people, including a minor were arrested for selling ganja in two separate incidents in Dharmapuri on Sunday. Police also seized 3kg of ganja worth Rs 30,000 and an electronic weighing scale from them.Three people were apprehended, when a special team led by sub-inspector Sundaramurthy conducted a search near MGR Nagar railway overbridge following a tip-off. Police said Sivashakthi, 26, Karthik, 25, and Hariharan, 27, who were standing with a plastic bag, tried to run on seeing the police. However, police surrounded them, caught them and searched them, during which they recovered 1.7kg of ganja. “During interrogation, they confessed to buying 2.5kg of ganja from an unidentified person, sold 750g of it, and were attempting to sell the remaining 1.7kg,” the SI said.In another operation, a police team led by sub-inspector Venkateshkumar conducted a search in the western part of the Bidamaneri lake bund following a tip-off. They arrested Shakthikumaran, 23, and a 17-year-old boy for having in position 1.2kg of ganja and an electronic weighing scale. “They confessed to buying 2kg of ganja, and already selling three-fourths of a kg, and were trying to sell the remaining 1.2kg,” the SI said.Two separate cases were registered and all five arrested under the NDPS Act.
