Dumka: Five suspected cyber fraudsters were arrested in two separate raids in Jamtara district, police said on Friday. Eleven mobile phones and 13 SIM cards were seized from their possession.A team led by Cyber Police Station in-charge Rajesh Mandal arrested Taslim Ansari (20), Manazir Ansari (21) and Abdul Latif (27) from Muchiadih under Narayanpur police station limits on Thursday. Usman Ghani (25) of Alagchua and Jitendra Mandal (43) were arrested from Mattand village under Karmatanr police station.Jamtara SP Shambhu Kumar Singh said the phishers targeted credit card users by using fake cashback messages and fraudulent calls as baits. “The accused used to send messages claiming that the recipient had received a Rs 999 cashback on a digital payments platform and then persuade them to follow instructions or download applications to claim the amount,” Singh said.Posing as bank officials, the accused told the users that their credit cards had been blocked. Then, they made their targets to download APK files which enabled them to access confidential credit details and carry out fraudulent transactions, police said. Notably, over 122 people have been arrested for cybercrimes across the district this year.
