T’puram: A fast track court here on Wednesday acquitted all five accused in the murder case of notorious history-sheeter Aneesh alias ‘Kakka’ Aneesh, nearly three years after the incident that had sent shockwaves through Naruvamoodu.The court found Anoop, Sandeep, Arun, Renjith and Anoop alias Nandu not guilty in the case registered by Naruvamoodu police under IPC sections 302 and 34 and ordered their acquittal.Aneesh, popularly known as ‘Kakka’ Aneesh, was an accused in around 27 criminal cases, including Marayamuttom Jose murder case. He had been released from jail under the Kaapa barely two weeks before he was killed.According to prosecution, the murder took place on the night of Nov 25, 2023, at an abandoned hollow-brick manufacturing unit at Kulangarakonam, which was allegedly Aneesh’s regular hangout.Police had alleged that the five accused, all neighbours of Aneesh and with no previous criminal antecedents, attacked him following a confrontation. During the investigation, the accused reportedly told police that they had been subjected to repeated harassment, intimidation and abuse by Aneesh over a prolonged period.Investigators said Aneesh was allegedly involved in extorting money from locals and often threatened or abused those who refused to comply. The accused had also claimed that Aneesh frequently abused them and their family members.The prosecution case stated that Aneesh, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, reached the abandoned brick unit on the night of the incident and attempted to attack the accused, leading to a scuffle. Police alleged that the accused overpowered Aneesh and fatally assaulted him using a knife that he was carrying.Police arrested the accused based on CCTV footage, tower location data and other evidence. However, after examining the evidence and witnesses, the court found the accused not guilty and acquitted all five in the case.
