Founded in 1967, Maitreyi College was established with a vision of nurturing young women through quality education. It’s been 60 years since that vision took shape. And that calls for celebration. The college marked the milestone by kicking off its year-long diamond jubilee celebrations at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday morning with a FIT India event. Students, faculty and guests took part in fitness activities. Cultural performances paid tribute to the armed forces as the celebrations coincided with Kargil Vijay Diwas.

A milestone marked with innovationSaroj Chawla, the college’s first faculty member, who joined in 1967, was among the dignitaries on stage. The celebrations also included the unveiling of a painting of Vidushi Maitreyi, a cycling rally and the launch of Sugam, the college’s in-house navigation app that helps persons with disabilities navigate the campus independently. Appreciating the positive step toward inclusivity, chairperson of the governing body of the college, Jagreet Kaur said, “Maitreyi College has a glorious legacy, where education is guided by the principles of innovation and inclusivity. Sugam, which you saw today, is just one example of how innovation is taking shape on campus while reflecting our larger educational vision.”

A vision marking 60 years“Today is a historic occasion, as Maitreyi College is entering its diamond jubilee year, marking 60 years of an inspiring journey of excellence, resilience, and unwavering commitment to empowering women through education,” said principal Haritma Chopra, as she initiated the fitness-led event. She added, “Named after the Vedic philosopher, Vidushi Maitreyi, the college has remained steadfast in its commitment to the ideals of knowledge, wisdom, integrity, and social responsibility. These values continue to shape our academic vision and inspire every student who walks through our door.”

Seeing months of planning and collective effort come together seamlessly for this momentous event reaffirmed that meaningful milestones are achieved when everyone works towards a shared vision.”
