Kanpur: A massive fire broke out in a three-storey furniture showroom in the Govindnagar police station area on Tuesday morning, gutting the entire building within a short span. No casualties were reported in the incident.According to the showroom tenant, the fire broke out at around 5.30am, allegedly due to a short circuit in an electric pole installed in front of the showroom. He claimed that furniture worth about Rs 2 crore was reduced to ashes in the blaze.Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said around eight fire tenders from Fazalganj and Kidwai Nagar were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control within four hours.During the firefighting operation, police completely stopped vehicular traffic on the old bridge in Govindnagar.
