Smoke emanates from the building

Bhubaneswar: Two shops were completely gutted and an ATM partially damaged in the fire that broke out in Priyadarshini market complex at CRP Square here on Friday, triggering panic among shopkeepers, employees and customers. While no loss to life was reported, damage to property is being assessed, fire officials said. “A spark started in a shop, whose air conditioning was on overnight. As the shop owner came to open the shop, smoke was emanating from a corner near the AC. Soon, it spread to nearby shops. Since it is a big market, we brought six fire tenders to douse the fire. Within an hour, we doused the flames and stopped further spread,” said assistant fire officer Manoranjan Rout.Fire officials said the market complex is located at a prominent location with more than 100 shops in the four-storey building. The shop, which caught fire, was on the first floor. Shopkeepers and customers vacated the building when fire-fighters got into their job. Sources said for some time along the route, traffic was disrupted, but there was no major jam.
