Pune: The fire department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) inspected 295 establishments in the last two days to check compliance with the fire safety measures.Of these, around 169 were PGs and hostels, 33 buildings of coaching classes, about 17 scrap sheds, 29 schools-colleges and 27 hospitals. All the establishments have been issued notices asking them to install the safety measures within the next seven days and produce the compliance report.Ganesh Sonune, head of the fire department, said the steps have been taken to ensure fire safety at the commercial establishments where people visit in significant numbers. The checks will continue across the city, he said.The administration has initiated a drive following recent incidents of fire in other major cities. The fire department started the checks of PGs and hostels on priority. A review meeting was held two days back during which it was decided to intensify the checks of schools-colleges, hospitals and hotels for fire safety measures besides the PGs and hostels.
