Rajkot: A routine traffic enforcement drive on 150 Foot Ring Road escalated into a criminal case after a traffic policeman was allegedly threatened after detaining a dumper that had no numberplates, prompting Gandhigram police to book the accused and his accomplices.On Monday, traffic branch Sector 4 police inspector S D Gilwa was on patrol with his team near Parshuram Chowkdi on 150 Foot Ring Road. They stopped a dumper that was operating without numberplates and valid documents.Police decided to impound the vehicle and move it to the Sheetal Park Towing Station. While the dumper was being impounded, a black Thar and a rider on a Splendor motorcycle blocked its path, near Sheetal Park Chowk.According to the FIR, one Munno Kothiwar of the Para Pipaliya area stepped out of the Thar and began arguing with the police personnel. He allegedly threatened them, saying that if they detained the vehicle, he would not allow them to work in Rajkot and would remove their belt and cap. After issuing the threats, he left the spot.The police personnel later reached the towing station and impounded the dumper. The incident was recorded in the station diary and reported to senior officers.Following instructions from higher authorities, Gilwa filed a complaint at Gandhigram police station against Munno Kothiwar and an unidentified accomplice under Sections 221, 224, 351(2) and 54 of the IPC for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty, causing delay in public work and issuing criminal threats.Police teams are searching for the accused and have begun further investigation into the case.
