People staged a protest against the murder of a minor boy in the Khoda area on May 30
Khoda has remained on edge since May 28, when a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death allegedly after a dispute over a bike ride. In the days that followed, the family’s call for justice drew large groups from outside the colony, people from Noida, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Meerut and adjoining districts claiming affiliation with right-wing outfits. Some of these protesters shouted communal slogans, including “goli maro” (shoot them) directed at one community. Crowds also demanded the encounter killings of all the accused, hours after the prime suspect, Asad (19), was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police.
A madrasa was sealed and its electricity connection cut in Khoda on Tuesday
In the follow-up action, the administration and police on Tuesday sealed two madrasas — Sultan Alarfeen in Mohalla Birbal and Ramania Arania Pasimool Ulook in Khoda — after they were found operating illegally, without a minority affairs office registration or a valid registration certificate from UP Madrasa Society, a state regulatory and administrative body governing recognised Islamic educational institutions in UP. A madrasa in Masuri was also demolished for encroaching on govt property following an order issued by the tehsildar court. So far, four persons, including Asad’s father Nawab (45), Farhan (19), Aatif (19) and Sariq Mewati (20), have been arrested. Police allege all four held the teenager down as Asad stabbed him repeatedly. The police probe also found that Farhan had supplied the knife, and Nawab had directed Asad to kill the boy.Meanwhile, senior police officers said more than a thousand cops would be deployed across Khoda colony for Friday prayers. A senior officer said the area has 19 mosques and four madrasas, and that forces drawn from eight police stations, along with PAC and RAF contingents, would be in position to maintain order.Police also shared findings from Operation Clean, an ongoing criminal verification drive in the colony. Of the 1,600 persons listed, 1,400 — among them 45 are gangsters and 37 history-sheeters — have been verified so far, police said. More than 600 have left Khoda, while roughly 800 remain, some of them in judicial custody.
