New Delhi: Delhi govt has intensified checks on adulterated milk products ahead of the festive season, with 22 of 30 khoya samples collected from Mori Gate Khoya Mandi found unsafe for consumption.The Food Safety Department said it has destroyed over 4,100 kg of suspected adulterated khoya and paneer during enforcement drives conducted across the capital over the past month.Officials said the action was aimed at preventing unsafe food products from reaching consumers during the festive season, when demand for sweets and milk-based products rises significantly.Laboratory tests showed that 22 of the 30 khoya samples collected from Mori Gate failed to meet prescribed food safety standards. Similarly, of the 19 samples of paneer and chhena tested, 12 did not conform to the required standards.The department has initiated prosecution proceedings against the food business operators concerned under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.The crackdown covered several key wholesale and retail markets, including Mori Gate, Okhla Sabzi Mandi, Bagh Diwar, Sanjay Market, Janakpuri, Shahdara, Ghazipur and Jheel.Chief minister Rekha Gupta directed the department to maintain strict surveillance during the festive season and take action against traders found selling adulterated or unsafe food products.Gupta urged food business operators to adhere to prescribed hygiene and food safety standards and sell only products meeting regulatory norms.
