Ludhiana: Police have booked a Tagore Nagar resident for allegedly duping a father-son duo of Rs 1.05 crore on the pretext of investing their money in gold trading.According to the complainant, the money was handed over to the accused in 2022 after he promised good returns on investment. However, despite repeated assurances, the victims neither received any profits nor got their money back. When they demanded the return of their investment, the accused allegedly kept making excuses, prompting them to approach the police in March this year.Following an inquiry conducted by additional DCP (Operations) Ramandeep Singh Bhullar, police registered an FIR against Varun Verma, a resident of Tagore Nagar, Civil Lines, under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.

Complainant Sahiljeet Singh Bedi stated that he met the accused at a party in 2022. The accused allegedly convinced him and his father to invest in a gold trading business and collected Rs 1.05 crore in three instalments.ASI Saraj Kumar, the investigating officer, said the accused joined the inquiry but failed to submit any evidence in his defence. The accused is yet to be arrested.
