Guwahati: A six-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father inside a moving train in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, police said, adding that the accused was arrested soon after authorities were alerted.The accused, identified as Sunil Murmu, was travelling with his daughter, Sumi, in a general coach of the Dekargaon–Murkongselek Express, a Government Railway Police officer said.“They had boarded the train from Biswanath Chariali city. There were very few passengers on board. He was carrying a machete and was creating disturbance inside the train. The nearby passengers, disturbed by his behaviour, moved to other compartments. Then he used the weapon to behead her. We have recovered the machete from him,” the officer said.Police said the motive behind the killing has not yet been established and the accused is being interrogated.The incident took place moments before the train reached Silonibari railway station. After police recorded statements of witnesses and took custody of the body, the train left the station at 10:58am.The officer said Sunil and his daughter were residents of Assam’s Dhemaji district. Following the incident, the accused’s brother filed a complaint, and the GRP registered a case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police said the accused will be produced before the chief judicial magistrate court in Lakhimpur.
