Prayagraj: In a novel initiative, Fatehpur police on Wednesday launched a system under which complainants will receive a copy of their FIR on WhatsApp. If a complainant does not use WhatsApp, a beat constable will deliver the FIR copy at their doorstep.“This will save complainants from making repeated visits to police stations to obtain a copy of the FIR, which should be provided immediately after registration,” said Fatehpur superintendent of police Abhimanyu Manglik, who conceived the initiative. The SP said the decision was taken after it came to light that many complainants failed to receive FIR copies for several days after registration due to various reasons.“It is mandatory to provide a copy of the FIR to the complainant on the day it is registered. Once the FIR is filed and sealed, a copy should be handed over immediately. However, in many cases, complainants are made to visit police stations several times, and delivery of FIR copies is delayed,” he said.Manglik said that when a beat constable visits a complainant’s residence to deliver the FIR copy, a photograph of the handover will be taken for official records.“A woman beat constable will visit the residence of a woman complainant. Laxity on the part of policemen will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he added.Such a system is already in place in Ghaziabad and Telangana.
