Chandigarh: The Chandigarh traffic police have announced diversions and restrictions on several key roads Monday in view of a farmers’ protest march expected to enter the city from Mohali.Traffic restrictions will remain in force from 10.30am to 3pm on multiple stretches, including the road from the Sector 51/52 light point towards ISBT-43, Sector 43 Chowk, South End Chowk and Piccadilly Chowk, including the Aroma light point on Himalaya Marg.Restrictions will also be in place on the road from Piccadilly Chowk towards the Sector 20/21-33/34 Chowk on Dakshin Marg, covering Kisan Bhawan Chowk and Gurdwara Chowk.Another affected stretch includes roads from the Sector 20/21-33/34 Chowk to Gaushala Chowk, besides the dividing road from Sector 50/51 Chowk towards the Mohali barrier on Sarovar Path, including the Sector 20/21 light point and Sector 45-46/49-50 Chowk.The police have advised commuters to use alternate routes and follow real-time traffic updates on Chandigarh Traffic Police’s social media handle on X (@trafficchd).The protest has been called by farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rajewal). Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said the march will begin at 11am from Nature Park in Mohali and proceed towards Chandigarh. If their demands are not met, farmers will launch a larger agitation on the lines of the Delhi protests, he said.Farmer leaders said participants would wear shirts carrying their demands. A large contingent of motorcycle riders will lead the march, followed by a convoy of cars.
