Rajkot: A 40-year-old farmer was arrested in Rajkot district after police allegedly found cannabis plants worth over Rs 37 lakh being cultivated on his agricultural land in Vinchhiya taluka.The accused, identified as Ramesh Jadav, was apprehended near Bhadli village.According to police, a team of the special operations group (SOG) was patrolling the Jasdan–Vinchhiya area when they received a tip-off that Jadav had cultivated cannabis on his farmland near Bhadli village. Acting on the information, the team reached the spot and conducted a search of the farm.Police said that along with other crops, officers noticed cannabis plants scattered across the land.During preliminary questioning, Jadav told police that he had been engaged in farming for the past 15 years. The SOG team then called a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for verification, and the preliminary examination confirmed that the plants were cannabis.Police subsequently seized more than 74 kg of cannabis plants from the farm.A case has been registered against the accused under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
