Surat: A 59-year-old farmer has lodged a police complaint alleging that two men cheated him of Rs 2.38 crore in connection with a land deal and later refused to honour their commitment to transfer the property.According to the FIR registered at Amroli police station on Wednesday, complainant Yogendra Singh Bakarola alleged that the dispute relates to land bearing survey numbers 544/1, 544/2 and 557 in Kosad.The accused, Jayanti Jerambhai Ahir and Dharmesh Jitendrabhai Ahir, inherited the land following the death of Jerambhai Ahir, who had earlier sold land to the Bakarola family.After Jerambhai’s death, the accused assured Bakarola that they would complete the necessary formalities and hand over the land. However, Bakarola alleged that the duo repeatedly delayed the process on various pretexts.The FIR further states that Jayanti had also borrowed Rs 5 lakh from Bakarola for the wedding ceremony of Dharmesh.According to the complaint, the two parties entered into a sale agreement in 2013 in the presence of common friends and relatives. During the subsequent process of completing the transaction, it was found that a premium of Rs 2.38 crore had to be paid to the govt for the land documents.Bakarola alleged that in 2023, he paid the entire premium amount of Rs 2.38 crore for all three plots at the govt office after Jayanti provided him with challans purportedly issued by the mamlatdar. However, when the time came to transfer the land, the accused had refused to complete the transaction and hand over the property.Following the alleged refusal, Bakarola approached Amroli police and lodged a complaint of cheating against the two men.
