Balasore: The family of 26-year-old Bharati Mukhi, who was knocked down and killed by a speeding car in Hyderabad on Aug 16, has been left shattered by her sudden death, and is seeking justice and financial assistance after losing its sole breadwinner.Bharati, who hailed from Bantali village in Mayurbhanj district, worked as a sales executive at a store in Hyderabad. Her earnings helped sustain her family — parents and two brothers — for nearly five years.On Aug 16, Bharati suffered severe head injuries after the car hit her while she had stepped out to buy lunch. She was taken to a private hospital in Jubilee Hills, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.Her mother Anandini said she raised her through great hardship. “She grew up, went to college and even did a diploma course. I had secured admission for her in a BTech programme, but Covid-19 disrupted her studies. Later, she got a job and left home,” Anandini recalled.Her brother Rajanikant said the family is devastated. “There is no one left to look after us now,” Rajanikant said, appealing to the govt for financial assistance.Meanwhile, Hyderabad’s Madhapur police have registered a case under Section 106(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with causing death by a rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide.Madhapur assistant commissioner of police Ch Sridhar said no arrest has been made in the case as the offence is bailable. “Police issued notices to the accused. All procedures were followed,” Sridhar said, adding the high-end car had been seized.Drunk-driving and drug tests were conducted on the accused, while his blood samples were sent to a forensic science laboratory for examination. Police are awaiting the post-mortem report, while further investigation is underway.
