BENGALURU: A family friend’s obsession with “disciplining” a 17-year-old college student allegedly turned violent after he confronted her for skipping classes to watch a movie with friends and stabbed her in the neck.The injured girl was rushed to a private hospital and is now recovering.The girl is a resident of Siddarthanagar on Dr TCM Royan Road in Cottonpet, and a II PU science student at a private college in Rajajinagar.According to the complaint filed by her father, a welder, the accused, Afsar, 30, who runs a grocery shop, and his family had been known to the complainant’s family for nearly three decades.On July 25, the teenager skipped college and went to watch Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay’s starrer Jana Nayagan with her friends.The college management, after learning that a group of students had bunked classes, informed the girl’s father and Afsar, as he was named her guardian during the admission process.The accused allegedly visited her college on July 28 to verify the information.Later, around 10pm, the teenager noticed Afsar standing outside her house.She stepped out to talk to him. About 30 minutes later, the family was startled by the girl’s screams.They rushed out to find her bleeding heavily from a deep injury to her neck.Her family rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors referred her to another hospital after providing first aid. She was discharged Thursday.The girl told her family that Afsar confronted her about skipping college to watch a movie.During the argument, he got enraged and attacked her with a knife before fleeing the spot.Based on the father’s complaint, Cottonpet police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and Juvenile Justice Act.Asenior officer said, “Afsar was detained the next day. The victim’s family requested we do not arrest him as they are very close and want to compromise on the issue. However, since the case has been registered, we will be filing a chargesheet against him.”The girl’s father told TOI, “We’ve known Afsar for years. My daughter spent more time at his house than at ours. He used to drop her at school and take care of her studies. So, we don’t want to pursue the case.”
