Chandigarh: Police have launched an investigation into a late-night arson attack in the Ram Darbar area, where a motorcycle was reduced to ashes following what investigators suspect is a long-standing family dispute. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 26, has left a local family fearing for their safety and calling for urgent legal intervention against a relative they believe orchestrated the strike. The Midnight StrikeAccording to the formal complaint registered at the Sector-31 Police Station, the attack took place at approximately 1:40 am. Witness accounts and the victim’s statement describe a targeted hit. Two unidentified youths were seen approaching a motorcycle parked beneath a residential flat before setting it ablaze. The vehicle was completely destroyed before the fire could be contained. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the fire took hold, disappearing into the night.A History of HostilityThe complainant, Meena Chaudhary, has pointed toward a fractured family dynamic as the catalyst for the crime. Chaudhary informed police that her son, Vikram, entered a love marriage in 2018, but the relationship soured significantly over time. The couple began living separately approximately one year ago. Chaudhary alleged that her daughter-in-law had previously issued threats against the family, leading them to believe the arson was an escalation of these prior warnings. Sector-31 police are treating the matter with high priority given the nature of the threats involved.Evidence GatheringOfficers are currently scanning CCTV footage from the Ram Darbar area to identify the two youths responsible for the fire. While the family has named a specific relative in their allegations, no arrests have been made as police work to establish a direct link between the attackers and the ongoing domestic dispute.Family Plea“The family has requested the police to ensure their safety following these repeated threats,” a department spokesperson noted. “We are examining all angles to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice at the earliest.”MSID:: 129867305 413 |
