Patna: The death of 32-year-old sub-inspector Yogesh Kumar Shah, posted at the Naugachia SP office in Bhagalpur district, triggered protests in his native village in Banka on Sunday with hundreds of residents and family members blocking the Bhagalpur-Dumka road to demand a CBI probe.Protesters placed the vehicle carrying Yogesh’s body on the road around 8am and raised slogans demanding justice. The blockade disrupted traffic, leaving buses, trucks and private vehicles stranded.Yogesh, a resident of Tappadi village under Barahat block in Banka district, was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his room at the Naugachia police lines on Saturday morning. His body reached the village late that evening, where residents and relatives gathered.Family members and villagers refused to accept suicide as the explanation for his death, saying Yogesh was a dutiful and mentally strong police officer. Police, however, said a suicide note was recovered from his room.Naugachia SP Vaibhav Sharma confirmed the recovery of the note. “The note contains the line that embracing death was preferable to living a life after such a marriage. The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation,” Sharma said.Yogesh’s mother, Urvashi Devi, said he had been distressed after marrying Gudia Kumari against the family’s advice. “After his marriage, my son remained very troubled. I had advised him not to marry, but Yogesh chose to marry Guriya Kumari out of love. She did not speak to him properly. My son was a simple person,” she said.Sharma cited family-related stress following the marriage as a possible factor, though the nature of the alleged discord has not been established publicly. The family also alleged that officers had harassed Yogesh. The protesters said they would continue their agitation until the state govt and police headquarters assured them of an impartial, high-level probe by the CBI or another independent agency.
