Gorakhpur: A video showing a lawyer thrashing a police sub-inspector with a shoe on a road in Shahpur area went viral on Sunday, prompting a police inquiry that found the entire episode to be staged. Police said the video was made to garner likes and views on social media.The 2-minute-55-second video shows a man dressed as a lawyer stopping a motorcycle-borne man in police uniform and confronting him over the detention of his father. The argument escalates into a physical fight, with the man in lawyer’s attire hitting the uniformed person with a shoe. A few people are also seen intervening.The video also captures references to contacting an MP and getting the officer transferred. At one point, the man is heard saying that the video had been recorded.SP City Nimish Patil said the police verified the video and found that neither the uniformed man nor the person dressed as a lawyer was genuine. “The video was found to be fake,” he said.Patil said the video was being circulated to tarnish the image of the police and legal fraternity. An FIR is being registered at Shahpur police station and two youths have been detained for questioning.
