Gurgaon: A man, who stayed for over four months at a hotel and showed fake UPI screenshots as proof of paying his more than Rs 6 lakh bill, was arrested on Wednesday.As per the complainant, Tapesh Kumar, director of Lime Tree Hotels Service Apartment, the accused, Himanshu, a resident of Sohna, stayed at their service apartment in DLF Phase V from Oct 4, 2025 to Oct 7, 2025, and again from Oct 15, 2025 to Feb 24, 2026.Kumar alleged that during Himanshu’s stay, the guest showed screenshots reflecting successful payments generated through a fake UPI application and shared the same via WhatsApp as proof of payment. However, the amounts were never credited to the company’s bank account.When confronted, the accused allegedly failed to provide a valid transaction ID or any corresponding debit entry in his bank statement.As per the complaint, the total unpaid amount arising out of the fake transactions was Rs 6,17,000. The company submitted detailed records of 15 transactions that were claimed to have been made but were not reflected in its bank account. Following Kumar’s complaint, police registered a case under sections 318(4) (cheating) of BNS and under relevant sections of the IT Act at Sector 53 police station. Further investigation is underway.
