Kanpur: A scramble broke out along a highway in Kanpur’s Panki industrial area after a factory management allegedly dumped expired chocolates and toffees at a roadside garbage site, prompting people to carry away cartons of the discarded products.A viral video showed people rushing to grab chocolates and making off with cartons loaded on motorcycles and cars.Residents alleged that the chocolates and toffees had expired in 2024 and were dumped by the factory management that manufactured.According to eyewitnesses, a truckload of expired confectionery products was unloaded at the spot, and the stock was carried away within 30 minutes.On receiving information, police reached the spot and launched an investigation. During inspection, officers found torn wrappers bearing labels that suggested the products originated from Gujarat.DCP (West) SM Qasim Abidi said the officer incharge of Panki police station has been asked to investigate the matter.“Consuming expired food items can pose a serious health risk. After the investigation, an FIR will be registered,” he said.
