Dwaipayan.GhoshKolkata: Former ward 104 councillor and ex-borough XI chairman Tarakeswar Chakraborty illegally filled multiple public water bodies and protected wetlands in east Kolkata for commercial construction, police told the court.Seeking his custody, investigators alleged he misused his official position to grab land for personal gain. Police said his interrogation revealed clues about an organised land-grabbing racket, its alleged masterminds, the conspiracy behind the encroachments, and the concealment of extorted valuables and land deeds.Investigators plan to seek records from KMC and the state irrigation and fisheries departments. They also intend to identify encroached wetlands and recover stolen gold ornaments and financial documents. Police said statements of key witnesses have been recorded and a separate FIR is under consideration.
