NEW DELHI: The ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Monday labelled the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) an “evil force” following the arrest of DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi in connection with an alleged Rs 100-crore scam. The Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested Poyyamozhi over alleged irregularities in granting recognition and other statutory clearances to private schools during his tenure as school education minister.“Is the mask of the DMK—which once arrogantly boasted, ‘We are the banyan tree; no matter who governs, we are the ruling party’—finally being torn off today? The history of this ‘landlord-style’ party is one of proclaiming ‘principles are our lifeblood’ from public platforms while simultaneously using its power to plunder the people’s tax money!” the TVK’s IT wing wrote in Tamil in a post on X.“In the days to come, people will speak of the DMK not just as an ‘evil force,’ but as the very fountainhead of corruption! Go ahead and lament about that too—pour it all out!” it added.Without naming Poyyamozhi directly, the TVK’s IT wing also labelled him a “senior generational abuser”.“Having turned students’ education and the employment dreams of the youth into a hunting ground for corruption, do you feel no shame in masquerading as a man of virtue, you senior generational abuser?” the party’s IT wing wrote.“On one hand, a powerhouse actor—a true ‘demon’ of the craft—has been arrested on corruption charges linked to matters concerning the education of school students! On the other, a review petition filed by another former minister has been dismissed in a case involving allegations that he shattered the dreams of young people—who had spent years studying day and night for government jobs—all for the sake of money!” it further stated.

The second case referred to DMK leader and former minister KN Nehru. On Monday, the Madras high court dismissed Nehru’s review petition challenging its February order directing the registration of an FIR against him in connection with an alleged multi-crore corruption and tender manipulation case.
