Porvorim: Every MLA will get approvals for works worth Rs 100 crore in his or her constituency, and the legislator will have to submit a list of his or her priorities accordingly, chief minister Pramod Sawant announced in the budget. As per an earlier scheme, the MLAs could get works worth Rs 40 crore each sanctioned in their constituency.Though the public works department (PWD) has a provision of Rs 1,321 crore in the budget, excluding expenditure, most of the 133 works announced by the CM only include resurfacing, widening or improvement of already existing roads. Each work is worth ranging between Rs 1-25 crore.Road quality across the state will be improved at Rs 1,237.5 crore, Sawant said. But some of these roads are only being restored after they had been dug up to lay sewerage and other lines. GIS mapping of utilities and laying of special ducts for utility lines by the roads were among old announcements the CM repeated in the budget.The three new projects announced, also funded by the Union ministry of road transport and highways, are road from Tuem electronics city to the highway, Sanguem Paikdev Temple bridge, and beautification of roads around the GMC, all at Rs 444.6 crore.
