Patna: National Academic Programme on Communication in Healthcare will be organised by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in collaboration with AIIMS-Patna, and Society for Communication in Healthcare on Sunday on AIIMS premises. The programme is aimed at strengthening postgraduate medical training and specialist capacity across the country.The programme, themed “From empathy to patient safety: Strengthening professional communication in clinical practice,” seeks to underscore the important role of effective communication in modern healthcare by fostering empathy, enhancing patient safety, strengthening teamwork, improving informed decision-making and promoting ethical, patient-centred clinical practice.The event is expected to witness the participation of approximately 650-700 delegates, including healthcare professionals, medical educators and postgraduate trainees from across the country to deliberate on communication as a core clinical competency. Through experts’ lectures, academic discussions and interactive sessions, the programme aims to equip healthcare professionals with evidence-based communication strategies that improve clinical outcomes and reinforce public trust in healthcare institutions.The initiative will focus on structured teaching, clinical exposure, mentorship and assessment practices aligned with contemporary healthcare needs. Senior officials said the programme is designed to give young doctors hands-on learning while promoting uniform standards in medical education.Deputy CM, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, will be the chief guest at the inaugural session. Dr Abhijat Sheth, chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC) and president, NBEMS, will attend the event as the guest of honour, while Dr Minu Bajpai, executive director and vice-president, NBEMS, will also be present on the occasion.
