Guwahati: A high-level European Union delegation, led by its ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, arrived in Assam on Monday.On the first day of the two-day visit to the state, the delegation visited Tata’s under-construction semiconductor facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district. The delegation was led by Delphin and Didier Vanderhasselt, ambassador of Belgium to India, along with other dignitaries from the EU.On Tuesday, the Assam govt in collaboration with the European Union will launch the state’s first Blue Valley Cluster, an industrial hub focused on fragrances, flavours, AYUSH, and food processing.Morigaon district commissioner Anamika Tewari welcomed the guests and accompanied them to the Tata Electronics OSAT facility. “During the visit, the delegation gained first-hand insights into the development of the advanced electronics and semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem taking shape at Jagiroad,” the Morigaon district administration said in a social media post.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma pinned high hopes on the visit. “From barely featuring in the country’s industrial landscape to emerging as one of its growth engines, Assam has travelled a long way under the leadership of Adarniya @narendramodi Ji,” Sarma wrote on social media.“Tomorrow, in the presence of the largest-ever EU delegation… we will launch the Blue Valley Cluster initiative, ushering in transformative change for our farmers by leveraging our unique natural resources and creating new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and youth through direct access to European markets,” Sarma added.According to the EU, the visit focuses on value chains across sectors where Europe and Assam and the region as a whole share strong synergies, including renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.The EU, in a statement, also said this visit highlights the importance of the EU-India digital partnership under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council and will give European investors a closer look at Assam’s business environment, infrastructure, and industry potential.
