Nagpur: NCP (SP) Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule on Sunday said the state govt should implement Supreme Court’s 10pm cut-off for DJs uniformly across Maharashtra instead of imposing an outright ban in some cities and looking away elsewhere.On the controversy over playing DJs and loudspeakers at processions, Sule said, “The matter has escalated. I would urge the govt to develop a consensus as there are big festivals like Ganeshotsav, Navratri and then Diwali. We need to sensibly bring all sections of society together and find a way forward,” she said.Supporters of DJ have claimed students themselves are dancing in processions, “hence using them as a shield to impose a ban isn’t justified”. Sule drew a distinction. “There is no objection to dancing or to what anyone wants to do. The objection is about implementation. What does the Supreme Court’s order say? There is an order on decibel limit and that DJs must be shut off after 10pm,” she said.Citing the example of Nagpur, where police claimed to have ensured that noise limits while playing DJ were not breached, Sule said that instead of a ban, options that could fit within rules should be explored. “If rules for DJ can work in Nagpur, why can’t the chief minister get this implemented across Maharashtra by personally overseeing it? This is not for any individual, it is for children, for hospitals, for senior citizens,” she said.On reports of violence against supporters of a DJ ban, Sule said her party will never accept raising hand against someone. “Culture must continue, but it has to run by rule of law, not by anyone’s whims. We are not the ones who would resort to violence,” she said.
