Mysuru: A 68-year-old farmer was trampled to death by an elephant in Mysuru early on Tuesday.The incident occurred when Gurumallappa, 68, of Parinamipura village, Talakadu Hobli, T Narasipura taluk, went to his sugarcane field in the morning.
Additional SP C Mallik told TOI that the farmer died after an elephant attacked him in the border village. This is the first such incident of an attack by wildlife in this region, he said.According to local residents, an elephant that was moving in the nearby area entered the field and suddenly charged at him. The farmer died on the spot due to severe injuries.Officials said that efforts are being made to track the elephant and alert villagers in the area. The incident triggered fear among farmers working in nearby fields.
