Coimbatore: A 4-year-old boy was killed in a wild elephant attack in Mavadappu tribal settlement in Udumelpet forest range in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on Saturday evening.The deceased has been identified as T Varun, 4, son of Thiruman, a farmer in the Mavadappu tribal settlement. When the family was returning home from the field, Thiruman’s mother Amutha, 45, was carrying Varun. “A wild elephant suddenly chased them and attacked the boy and Amutha. Varun died on the spot, while Amutha survived with injuries,” said a forest official. Meanwhile, hearing the family’s screams, villagers rushed to the spot and chased the elephant away. Amutha was later admitted to the Pollachi govt headquarters hospital for treatment, where her condition is stable. The boy’s body was also sent to the same hospital for a postmortem and later handed over to his family.
