Complaints include ‘Telangana’ sometimes not appearing in the state dropdown menu on the Election Commission of India’s Voter Portal, failure to download acknowledgements after submission, and the online window not opening for some electors

Hyderabad: Electors have started filling out online Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration forms in urban areas of Telangana, as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are yet to visit several households. While some voters have completed the process, others have reported technical glitches, difficulties matching their details with the 2002 electoral rolls.Complaints include ‘Telangana’ sometimes not appearing in the state dropdown menu on the Election Commission of India’s Voter Portal, failure to download acknowledgements after submission, and the online window not opening for some electors. Responding to the complaints, Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy told TOI that electors should wait for a few more days for the forms to be delivered.“Online filing is an option available. Electors shall wait a few more days, and even if they have not received the enumeration forms, they can fill them out online. So far, we have received only a few online submissions, that too from urban areas. If the window is not opening, those electors may have the wrong name or incorrect details. The online system is working perfectly,” he said.Receipts fail to download“I’m trying to fill the enumeration form on the ECI Voter Portal, but the state dropdown does not show Telangana. Because of this, I am unable to proceed…” said a voter. Another elector claimed in a post on X that the receipt or acknowledgement could not be downloaded after online submission. The user also raised questions about correcting spelling errors in old names and linking the details of married women with either their husband’s or parents’ records in the 2002 SIR data. The complaints have raised questions over whether the online option, intended to make the exercise easier, is working smoothly for Telangana electors.Errors in old rolls add to burdenMismatch with the 2002 electoral rolls emerged as another concern. Voters have reported spelling and age errors in the old records, making it difficult to link their present particulars with the earlier rolls. “SIR is troubling the poor people in Telangana. There was a mistake in the age and the name in the list of 2002. Now it is not matching. People are leaving their jobs and looking for papers,“ an X user, Munir Ahmed, posted. The complaints indicate that the search for old records and uncertainty over acceptable documents are affecting daily-wage earners and other working-class electors, some of whom say they are losing workdays to complete the process.
