Dhanbad: A controversy has erupted over the election of Dhanbad Municipal Corporation’s newly appointed deputy mayor, Arun Chouhan, following a legal challenge filed in court seeking cancellation of his councillor election from Ward No. 7.Neha Kumari, the runner-up candidate from the same ward, has approached the court alleging that Chouhan concealed information about criminal cases against him during the nomination process. The court has admitted the petition and conducted a hearing in the matter.
Notably, Chouhan was elected as councillor from Ward No. 7 and later secured the post of deputy mayor with the support of fellow councillors.The case was heard in the court of Judge Partha Sarathi Ghosh. According to Neha, Chouhan had submitted an affidavit before the election officer mentioning only three criminal cases against him. However, she alleged that total of seven cases are pending against him at Loyabad police station. Chouhan dismissed the charges as baseless. He asserted that all necessary details were duly disclosed to the election authorities. “I respect the judiciary and have full faith in the court,” he said.
