Pune: A retired official (75) of a private shipping firm lost Rs 1.15 crore in an online share-trading fraud between Nov last year and Jan.The elderly man, a resident of the camp area, had initially filed an online complaint. After a preliminary investigation, the Pune cyber police registered a case on Friday.An officer from the Pune cyber police said the complainant retired from a private company. In Nov last year, he came across an advertisement about stock investments on a social media platform. He was then added to a group on a messaging app.“The crooks assured him of good returns on his investments in the share market through their firm. They made him download an app to monitor his profits,” the officer said.The officer said the crooks collected Rs 1.15 crore from the complainant in different bank accounts between Nov last year and Jan. The elderly man kept investing money as the app showed that he was earning good profits.“He later realised that he was being duped when he could not withdraw the money and filed an online complaint,” the officer said.The officer said a preliminary investigation revealed that the complainant’s money had been transferred to different bank accounts in different states. “Our investigation is on,” the officer said.
