Pune: A 78-year-old man from Baner became the latest victim of a share-trading fraud after a cybercrook, posing as an executive of a prominent stock broking firm, duped him of Rs 32 lakh.The crook promised him attractive returns on his stock market investments last month. The man lodged a complaint with Baner police, which registered a case on Thursday.An officer from Baner police said the complainant received a call from an unknown number on Sept 1. The caller claimed to be an executive of a prominent stock broking firm and assured the elderly man of good returns on his investments through the firm.“The caller provided detailed information about the stock market and asked the complainant to download an app. He then started giving him investment tips,” the officer said.The caller shared bank account details with the complainant to transfer money for investments. The elderly man continued investing because the app showed that he was earning substantial profits.However, when he tried to withdraw his money, he was unable to do so. He realised he had been cheated when the caller started demanding more money on various pretexts.
