Patna: An elderly couple was found hanging inside their home at Hem Colony (Mushhari) under K Nagar police station area in Purnia district on Sunday morning. While police are treating the case with caution, the couple’s daughter has alleged that her elder brother murdered their parents and staged it to appear as suicide. The deceased were identified as Gular Rishi (65) and his wife Muniya Devi (60).On receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem. A forensic team also visited the scene and collected evidence.Station House Officer of K Nagar police station, Ajay Kumar, said, “We are investigating the case from all possible angles. Further legal action will depend on the findings.”Sadar DSP-II Gaurav Kumar said it was premature to conclude whether the deaths were due to suicide or murder, adding that clarity would emerge only after post-mortem and forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports.Following the incident, the deceased’s daughter, Champa Devi, levelled serious allegations against her elder brother, Manoj Rishi, claiming he frequently assaulted their parents. She said she reached the spot on Sunday morning after being informed by villagers.Champa alleged that Manoj had threatened to kill their parents and was driven by greed for their property. She claimed he murdered the couple before hanging their bodies to make it look like suicide. The family further alleged that the elderly couple had been forced to survive by begging for nearly a year and that Manoj had discouraged villagers from providing them food or alms.
