Indore: A scheduling mix-up at Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya during BCom third-year public finance examination led to a small group of students missing their paper on Wednesday. The exam was conducted between 7 am and 10 am, but eight students arrived at 11 am, following the earlier schedule.
The examination was rescheduled from March 16 to April 8 due to adjustments linked with Common University Entrance Test. While the revised date and timing were updated on the university’s website and communicated to colleges through official channels, some students failed to note the change in timing.
University officials indicated that the revised schedule was clearly circulated, suggesting that the confusion largely stemmed from students not checking updated details carefully. Despite this, the university allowed the affected students to reappear for the examination within two days, preventing academic loss.
Controller of examinations Ashesh Tiwari noted that around 45,000 students are appearing for third-year undergraduate exams, including nearly 16,000 B.Com candidates, and only a handful faced this issue. A similar situation was reported a day earlier, when about 20 students across B.Com, BA, and B.Sc courses missed exams due to timing confusion.
While the university has reiterated that all updates were properly communicated, it has now directed colleges to ensure that exam timings are shared more explicitly with students to avoid such lapses in the future.
