Jamshedpur: Eight faculty members of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur have been featured in the newly released World’s Top 2% Scientists list.The ranking is based on bibliometric data from the Scopus database in collaboration with Elsevier and uses research-impact indicators such as citation impact, h-index, co-authorship, research productivity and other scholarly parameters. The assessment considers both career-long impact and single-year research impact, NIT officials said.“The Top 2% Scientists list is recognised as a joint initiative created by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier,” said NIT spokesperson Ratnesh Mishra.In the 2026 edition, the eight NIT Jamshedpur faculty members named in the global list are Sanjay and Satish Kumar from Mechanical Engineering; Balram Ambade from Chemistry; Sunil Kumar from Mathematics; Surajit Kundu and Ajay Kumar from Electronics and Communication Engineering; and Veerpratap Meena and Surya Prakash from Electrical Engineering.The institute credited the achievement to the sustained research efforts of its faculty members and the encouragement and guidance of Goutam Sutradhar, Director, NIT Jamshedpur.Officials said the faculty members have made substantial contributions through high-quality research publications, international journal articles, citations, patents and interdisciplinary research. Their work spans mathematical modelling, data analysis, materials science, thermal engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication, and chemical sciences.Notably, 3,898 Indian researchers from 1,185 institutions feature in the 2026 edition. IISc Bengaluru leads Indian institutions with 139 researchers, followed by IIT Delhi with 114 and IIT Kharagpur with 97.
