Srinagar, May 17: Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi on Sunday announced that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed across Union Territory on May 27, 2026.

According to an official statement issued from the office of the Grand Mufti, the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1447 Hijri was sighted on Sunday evening. With the beginning of the new month from Monday, May 18, Eid-ul-Adha will accordingly be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27.

The announcement was made after consultations with Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Umar Farooq and several religious scholars representing different schools of thought across J&K to ensure clarity and avoid confusion among the people regarding the festival.

The Grand Mufti appealed to the public to celebrate the occasion with religious devotion, brotherhood, and communal harmony.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the festival of sacrifice, holds deep religious significance for Muslims across the world. The festival commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and obedience, while also promoting charity, compassion, and unity within society. In J&K, the occasion is marked by special prayers, family gatherings, and the distribution of sacrificial meat among relatives and the underprivileged.
