Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI), along with West Bengal-Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and District Election Officer (DEO) offices, has launched a statewide voter awareness programme across West Bengal. As part of the awareness programme, an event was organized at Women’s Christian College in South Kolkata’s Kalighat. It was followed by Participation of ELC members, college students and BLOs. The programme featured Voter’s Pledge, inauguration of Voter’s guide, message wall – Democracy wall, EC sources said.

The programme was also attended by Randhir Kumar, IAS, District Election Officer Kolkata South, Apurva Kumar Singh Deputy Director (Media)- ECI, Arindam Niyogi, Additional CEO (SVEEP) Office of CEO, Electoral Literacy Club Members and District NVD Awardees and district & State SVEEP Team.

“The initiative will place special focus on youth and first-time voters. A wide range of awareness activities will be organised to educate citizens about voting essentials and underscore the importance of participating in the democratic process,” ECI said.

The main objective is to create a festive and participatory atmosphere around elections, in line with the vision of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, “Chunav ka Parv, Paschim Bengal ka Garv.”
In addition, a series of campaigns will integrate the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal, including traditional art forms such as Chhau dance, Jatra (folk theatre), and Kalighat painting. Activities will be organised at iconic locations across Kolkata-such as Howrah Bridge and other landmark venues, as well as at prominent sites in districts across the state.
