Chennai: Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced that elections to six Rajya Sabha seats in TN would be held on March 16. The terms of the six MPs – Tiruchi Siva, N R Elango, Anthiyur P Selvarasu, and Kanimozhi NVN Somu of the DMK, and M Thambidurai of the AIADMK and G K Vasan of TMC, are set to expire in April 2026.Sources in the DMK said that N R Elango and Tiruchi Siva are likely to retain the seat. Kanimozhi N V N Somu is showing interest in entering the state assembly and is seeking a seat in the forthcoming assembly polls, say DMK sources. The AIADMK is likely to retain its veteran, M Thambidurai, in the Upper House, while the question of renominating G K Vasan is undecided, say AIADMK men.The timing of the RS election, ahead of the TN Assembly elections has added a new layer to seat-sharing negotiations between parties in the state. Some of the alliance partners of both Dravidian majors are pressing for an RS seat as part of the alliance deal. TNN
