Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) raided at least 35 taluk offices in Tamil Nadu on Friday as part of a statewide drive to detect bribery and the collection of unaccounted money. Officials seized ₹13.78 lakh in cash and identified online transactions to the tune of ₹68.32 lakh that were yet to be accounted for.The inspections were carried out at taluk offices in Chennai, including Velachery and Perambur, and at offices in Cuddalore, Chidambaram and other districts.During a raid at the Thiruvarur taluk, DVAC officials seized ₹43,000 in unaccounted cash along with documents for examination. Officials said the inspection continued using mobile phone lights after a power outage disrupted the operation.At the Sirkazhi taluk office in Mayiladuthurai district, officials recovered ₹42,750 from the tahsildar, his driver and two village administrative officers (VAOs).In Madurai district, officials seized ₹34,000 during an inspection at the Thirumangalam taluk office. Searches at Vettiyankovil in Tirunelveli district yielded ₹32,200, while ₹15,000 was recovered during an inspection at the Tenkasi taluk office.According to the DVAC, the highest value of such online transactions was detected in Karur, where ₹16.33 lakh was received, followed by Trichy with ₹12.4 lakh.
