Coimbatore: A 35-year-old man was arrested for murdering his father following a drunken altercation at their residence in Chokkampudur near Selvapuram in Coimbatore on Sunday night.The deceased has been identified as Balan, 65, a painter, from Ayyappanar Street in Chokkampudur. He had two sons, B Sathish Kumar, 38, and B Ashok Kumar, 35.Police sources said both sons were habituated to alcohol and frequently engaged in domestic disputes. On Sunday night, Ashok and Sathish returned home in an inebriated state and an argument broke out between the brothers.When Balan intervened to pacify his sons and reprimand them for their behaviour, Ashok assaulted him with a kitchen knife. Balan suffered severe injuries on his stomach, collapsed in a pool of blood and died on the spot. Neighbours alerted Selvapuram police, who arrived at the scene, secured the body and sent it to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.Police arrested Ashok on charges of murder. He was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
