Chennai: A man was beaten to death by his friend in Pallavaram on Wednesday after he tried to frighten him with a snake, while drinking late at night.Vignesh, 27, of Pozhichalur, worked as an electrician. On Wednesday morning, his body was found with severe head injuries close to a temple ground nearby. Locals who discovered the body informed Sankar Nagar police.Vignesh and his friend Sathyaraj, 29, were drinking together on Tuesday night, police said. Amid the revelry, Vignesh hurled a small snake he had concealed in his bag at Sathyaraj, allegedly as a prank. Sathyaraj was taken aback and he verbally abused Vignesh, who attempted to attack Sathyaraj with a stone.However, Sathyaraj managed to overpower Vignesh, and he landed several blows on the latter’s head with the stone. Vignesh who sustained severe injuries on his head, hands, and legs, succumbed on the spot.Sathyaraj later fled to Madurantakam where he was tracked down and arrested. He was booked on charges of murder and was remanded in judicial custody.
