Nagpur: Two narcotics-addicted minors snatched a gold chain from a 65-year-old woman in Khasala village in north Nagpur, only for the Kapil Nagar police to crack the case and recover the stolen jewellery within 12 hours with the help of CCTV footage and manual intelligence.The incident took place when the elderly victim was walking leisurely outside her home. One of the minors patiently scouted the spot for nearly 1 hour before zeroing in on the woman. After snatching the gold chain, he ran about 1,400 metres before hopping onto a waiting bike driven by his accomplice, another minor. As the victim alerted the police, a crack team from Kapil Nagar police station, led by senior inspector Satish Ade and sub-inspector Jayram Deshmukh, swung into action under the direct supervision of Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale. Relying on informant inputs, manual intelligence, and CCTV footage analysis, officers quickly identified the suspects and tracked their movements.The duo was apprehended within 12 hours of the incident. During interrogation, police revealed that the 2 youngsters were hardcore narcotics addicts who committed the crime to fund their drug habit. Further probe disclosed that the pair was previously part of a bike theft module that was busted by the same police station in the recent past.The recovered gold chain was promptly returned to the elderly woman. The apprehended minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and subsequently placed in a govt shelter home for counselling, rehabilitation, and appropriate legal proceedings.
