Pune: Cybercrooks duped a real estate agent from Dhanori of Rs 5.8 lakh between Sept last year and Jan under the pretext of helping him secure a franchise of a dropshipping platform and earning Rs 10 lakh per month.The victim filed an online complaint application in Feb. After the preliminary investigations, a case was registered with the Vishrantwadi police on Friday.An officer from the Vishrantwadi police said the crooks contacted the victim through a social media platform. They offered him the franchise of an online dropshipping platform with an opportunity to earn up to Rs 10 lakh per month. They also assured to help in identifying the products and the customers. “The crooks then shared a link to a website, where the victim could check his orders and profit,” the officer said.He said between Sept last year and Jan, the victim transferred Rs 6 lakh from his and his wife’s bank accounts to the different accounts numbers provided to him. “The victim was told that he earned a profit of Rs 14 lakh on his investments. He was, however, allowed to withdraw Rs 22,000,” he said.The officer said when the victim tried to withdraw his profit amount, the crooks started demanding more money by citing different reasons. “The victim realised that he was being duped and approached the police,” the officer said.
